Tosath had been gifted a good amount of credits from the people of the slums for his assistance. He usually didn't like accepting credits for his volunteer work, but at the same time he saw the opportunity it provided. He could get some new equipment to help improve the quality of care that he could give. That might not have been the intention of the folks that had given him the gift, but it didn't change his own mindset.

Locating one of the medical supply shops, he browsed a bit to find a medical hand scanner that was compatible with his medpac and a backpack that was designed for a medic. He also noticed an affordable blood scanner that could identify foreign chemicals in a patient's body and decided to pick that up as well. Once he got all of it, he took some time in a public area to load it all onto his new backpack, connect the new scanners and do a basic diagnosis on himself to make sure everything worked.

He seemed pleased with the improved setup.

[Varina Ordo]

"What's up doc?" Varina chewed on a space carrot she had picked up. Then, the brilliant idea of doing knife tricks with it came to her head. But the different shape, weight and so on made it topple to the ground.

"Dang."

[Tosath Nazora]

"Not much," he replies. "Just because you have a doctor nearby doesn't mean you should play with knives Ms. Ordo. I'm not actively searching for fingers to surgically attach today. Have you had more than a carrot?"

[Varina Ordo]

"Hey, I'm pretty good when I'm using my knife! I'll keep that in mind though when I play... uh, do tricks with another knife."

Varina nodded. "I ate a lot of cereal. I like to pour from a variety of boxes so I can have a really weird flavor instead of changing it up day by day," she answered with the full confidence that this doctor cared about her eating preferences.

"Then it sounds like you haven't had a midday meal today. Would you like to join me for a bite? My treat. I was about to get something."

[Varina Ordo]

"Sure. I'll take that as part of your payment," Varina said with a wink. She then thought about that librarian lady. Perhaps she and this guy could get along.

Was he also without a girlfriend?

"You still talking to that lady I bothered?"

[Tosath Nazora]

"Not really. I spend a lot of time working and volunteering," he says as he slips the backpack over his shoulder and glances around for a food court.

"I have a lot of folks that I talk to regularly, but she's new to town and probably busy getting herself situated. She didn't seem like she was going to be a regular in the areas I frequent either. Didn't seem like the type to join up with the KSF, and I suspect she's not going to be a frequent visitor to the homeless shelter. She's a smart lady who'll probably find work pretty quickly."

He points to one of the small restaurants along the way.

"Oh." Well that was disappointing news. Varina wanted to hear about some sort of gossip. "Why wouldn't she go to the homeless shelter? Shouldn't she care about the poor?"

She looked at the restaurant and then shrugged. Wherever this guy wanted to go, she'd go with. "Ah, well, she ain't worth your time if she doesn't look after the homeless too."

The doctor starts towards the small restaurant that looked a bit like a cafe or diner.

"She might go there, eventually. But she's a new arrival to the city. She'll be busy looking for work and a place to live I'm sure. Maybe when she's settled she'll be the type to volunteer there. I can't say. But not everyone helps out by going there. Some donate credits, others give time, some just help specific folks on the street. She didn't seem like the type that didn't care, more like she just had pressing concerns at the moment being a new arrival to Kamda," he explained.

The place had tables, booths and a bar to sit at. So many seating options. He decides to move to the bar, since you could usually see the food being made from that position, and he liked watching a cook work. There were fixed pads there that were available to place orders with little droids wandering about fulfilling them, though the cooks looked like a middle aged pair of gentlemen that might be brothers.

"Ahh," Varina mused. She narrowed her eyes, which actually had pupils. at the Arkanian. So he was able to gleam that much from librarian lady, seemed to even like her. But did he like-like her?

The young lady sat beside him and stared at the cooks making their food. She wanted it now, but that wasn't how it worked at restaurants. "What do ya like eating here?"

"I like to try different things at different places when I get the chance. I've never had the Ramorean capanata here so I'll probably give that a try," he says, as he selects it from the menu screen.

"Go ahead and order what you'd like."

[Varina Ordo]

"Hm," she murmured, looking at the menu. Then she shrugged. "So choose something else that you haven't eaten and I'll order that. Then we can try both things."

[Tosath Nazora]

"How about the Fambaa Delight? Looks like it's new on the menu," he suggest to the young Ordo.

[Varina Ordo]

"I'm not quite sure what that is but I'll eat basically anything," Varina admitted. This was the girl who had eaten a bunch of stale sandwiches.

[Tosath Nazora]

"The pirates that took me had me subsisting on a nutrient paste. They didn't eat much better. Occasionally when they got a haul that contained food we'd eat better. So I know what it's like to be happy with whatever you can get," he says with a chuckle. He transfers credits to the device to finish the order. The prices were pretty reasonable here.

"It's a tough life, living on scavenging and from job to job."

"And a soft life makes a soft person," Varina said with a shrug. Despite all the tough girl talk, she did watch the chefs at work with great anticipation. "Doesn't seem like they were so good at piracy if they were poor, though."

[Tosath Nazora]

"I wouldn't say they were poor. They had dry spells and plentiful times. Not that I shared in the plentiful times. But when you make a living that way you have a lot of costs and the jobs are not necessarily regular or always profitable. If I had to guess, while they're all in prison right now, they each probably have more credits hidden away somewhere than I'll earn in my entire life. If they ever get out of jail they'll have more than enough money to restart their piracy or retire comfortably."

Tosath is watching the chefs with just as much interest, but probably less anticipation. He never really had to wonder if he'd be able to get a good meal since joining the KSF. After all, he could visit one of the cafeterias they ran for their officers.

[Varina Ordo]

"Maybe they got captured because they were too busy hoarding their money," Varina suggested. She wasn't the sort to know anything about 'financial investments' or other silly adult things.

[Tosath Nazora]

"No, the ship was captured because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. All though for me it was the right place at the right time. They targeted a freighter that was refueling in this system, but an imperial force also stopped to refuel during their process. Most of them were caught in the process of trying to hijack it. The remainder didn't know what was going on until it was too late. They used communication jammers when they did their jobs. When the Imperials noticed the jamming they turned on jammers of their own so that they couldn't warn the pirate vessel. It was located and immediately disabled. They didn't stand a chance, it all happened too quickly."

One of the serving droids brought out the two plates of food and set them in front of Varina and Tosath.

"I thought, 'Finally, I'm free.' But then the Imperials booked me as a member of the crew turning my good fortune into bad luck."

[Varina Ordo]

"They decided to choose captivity rather than fight for their honor?" she asked, clearly disappointed. She then shrugged. "They should have been more prepared anyways."

She looked at the food and then back to Tosath. "I guess that's why I try not to rely on luck. Glad you got out, though. You're alright."
