Where instincts lead (D1 MA)

Vast lands cultivated for farming by the many denizens of Kamda. These lands feed Kamda and much of the outer-rim territories.

Where instincts lead (D1 MA)

Post by Leah kuso » Thu Jul 09, 2020 2:54 am

The best produce was in the farmlands outside the city, this was something well known. There was a secret that a few of the natives knew however; some of the farmers, if they knew you well enough, would cut you a special deal on what they were growing simply because you were a native. This wasn't something handed out for free though, you had to prove yourself.

Leah had spent many many years coming out to the farmlands and helping where she could. There was always something there that called to her, although she had never found out what it was. Perhaps it was just the pull of planetary unity? It often felt in the city like it was you against the world, but out here the air was cleaner and the people were kinder.

If she wasn't so heavily in debt Leah might try to live out here.

For now though, she was just walking along the fields, enjoying the sights and letting her instinct guide her to where she might be able to get some cheaper produce. Or whatever that nagging feeling was telling her...

"Oi there! Stranger," a voice called out from over beyond a fence. Rising from the weeding he had been doing he offered a wide smile. Clapping down on the fence with both hands firmly he stood and waited for her to approach.

Leah returned the smile, waving as she approached.

"Hey there. How's the harvest looking so far?"

"Not that great, unfortunately," he sighed, giving his right arm a stretch by pulling it backward as he looked back toward his lands. Leaning up against the fence so that Leah was now to his right. "'fraid there won't be much to go to market this year but the family will eat. Should keep them from yammering away at me this year, 'least," he said with a grin.

"What brings you out here, stranger? City folk like you don't usually make it out this far," he said.

"Oh, that's a shame" Leah lowered her head, her Lekku making a comforting motion towards the man "I'm sorry. I hope next year improves for you."

She paused to look around.

"Oh...you're right. I have come much further than normal. I just...it's going to sound really weird saying this, but I just kind of walked in the direction my feet were taking me. I've had a few moments where it feels like something is guiding me somewhere, no idea where or why. I swear I'm not crazy" she laughed.

"You too!?" he shouted with a boisterous laugh. "I swear, if I didn't feel like no one would ever understand it. Came out here in my youth, knew that this would be the spot someday. Not quite sure why it just felt right. Now I'm here.. back. Grass is green, crops grow strong," he sighed warmly. "Couldn't have asked for a better place."

"Hope you find what you're looking for too stranger, keep walking and you will. You'll know it too, just like me."

"What? Really? You felt a pulling to here?"

Leah looked out over the fields again. What a coincidence..

"Have you ever felt anything like that before? Or like...I don't know, other weird things?"

She paused again, before turning back to the man "I'm Leah by the way. Leh'kuso" she said it in the Twi'lek way, instead of the normal human way.

"Tred'aru," he twisted slightly that he could offer a hand to the woman. "Only one other time and from that I became a married man. Always just felt it was my gut, tellin' me where I needed to be before I knew it. Always figured it out, always trusted it. Gave me a family and now I'm here."

"Why do you think you're being pulled out this way, Leh'kuso?"

"Good to meet you Tred'aru" Leahs Lekku moved in a greeting as well as her moving to shake his hand "and I've always trusted my gut feeling. It's weird, but like you it's never steered me wrong. As for why..." Leah took a moment before shaking her head "I have no idea. Maybe there's something in this field? How long have you been here now?"

She motioned to the fence.

"If I promise not to touch anything, mind if I come on in and see if whatever is pulling me along is in here?"

"Been here some many years, tilled it to the heavens and back in that time but," he shrugged with a large grin. "I'm about as interested as you are! Would be pretty wild if you found something even after all these years, just to think of it. That'd really be something.." he started talking to himself and drifted off by the end.

Slapping his hand down on the fence, "Come on, pop on over."

Leah smiled brightly and nodded, climbing over the fence carefully and dropping down into the mud.

"Right, let's see..." she closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, and calming herself. Letting her instincts guide her inwards.

There is a feeling there, one that she has always sort of had a sense of. Something beyond the normal senses. It feels like life, the ebbing and flowing of nature around her. With her time in the city she hasn't felt a presence this strong before, she can almost grasp it like you can focus on a faint scent, or feeling to make it stronger.

It was almost intoxicating, the life emanating off this place. How the ground seemed happy, well cared for. All of the planets, bugs, and other creatures that lived her all contributed to this feeling. Though she couldn't focus on any, she felt that they were part of this greater whole.

She would be inspired to move forward, but not by some specific feeling. Just a desire to feel more of the same, to feel the world around her. Stalks rose high for the plants that the farmer cultivated and the sensation emanating from them promised to be tantalizing. Alike to a refreshing spray of the sea inviting you into the waters.

"Wow..." Leah said quietly, slowly walking forward. Eyes closed, letting that feeling guide her. Drinking in everything, like she was entirely in tune with the world. It was wonderful, brilliant. A little scary, but amazing.

"I can feel it. Like...everything. Everything. The ground, the plants, the animals, the insects. It's like they're all alive and talking to me" she explained to her new friend as she walked.

"Never been out of the city, City-girl?" he joked, chuckling. Watching her experience, but he didn't understand.

"This is different. It's like...I don't know how to describe it. Everything is alive."

Leah stopped, taking a deep breath again.

"There's something about the field. It feels special, like there's more life here than anywhere else in the galaxy. I can see why it pulled you here. Well, not see but feel why."

A hearty laugh echoes behind, "I thank you Leh'kuso! You do a humble farmer proud to speak so highly of my land!" he laughed again.

"You see.." he steps forward, standing next to her and then kneeling down to place his hand against the soil. "It's all in treating the dirt right. Just right. Gotta know how to mimic the things you've taken from her, replenish what you take again."

Leah also knelt down, listening with a nod. The man was loud, which was a good thing as everything around them seemed loud as well. She placed her hand on the soil, to see if she could feel it like she could hear it.

It felt warm, like dirt if she'd experienced it much outside of the city before. Healthy dirt as much as a Farmer can do. Though like everything she noticed that hint of life, that beating ebb and flow of life moving through it.

"Calm your thoughts, and put your hand on the ground like this" Leah said to Tred'aru "do you feel that?"

"I feel.. I feel.." he grasped into the dirt and plucked it up, a small worm was wriggling in his hand but otherwise seemed unharmed. "A little fella, that what you talkin' bout miss?" he asked, giving a heart laugh.
