Pokosta Evening Gala [Day 4, Late Evening, Roleplay]

[Manny Donos]

"The owner of Lux?" She nods, "Heard of, but not all that much. The Lux was not a place high on my priorities."

She pats Manny on the arm, "Then you have misfortune on multiple counts, and my sympathies...for what they are worth."

Manny smiled. "Thanks BB. That's worth kinda a lot, actually." He shrugged. "But hey, don't worry about it. I'm staying with a friend. We're having a good time."

He took a deep breath. "Anyway, if you're looking into, uh, some more of the sort of work we're doing for our friend, I could introduce you to Lux. I've got an in with her. She's always looking for all sorts of talent. Mandalorians... non-Mandalorians..." Manny trailed off as his imagination failed him.

[Jyrvess Ertil]

Manny smiled. "Thanks BB. That's worth kinda a lot, actually." He shrugged. "But hey, don't worry about it. I'm staying with a friend. We're having a good time."

Jyrvess smiled back, "Always good to have a friend to help you when you are down."

"And I see..." She nods at his second statement, "Talents...like librarians."

"Yeah! Exactly!" Manny beamed. See, wasn't this what getting a crew was really all about?

He gave her a look, one eyebrow raised. "BB... c'mon. How many librarians take the sort of job we took?" He frowning, considering her thoughtfully. "Maybe you are a librarian. I dunno. But that's not all you are, that's for sure."

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"Yeah! Exactly!" Manny beamed. See, wasn't this what getting a crew was really all about?

He gave her a look, one eyebrow raised. "BB... c'mon. How many librarians take the sort of job we took?" He frowning, considering her thoughtfully. "Maybe you are a librarian. I dunno. But that's not all you are, that's for sure."

"A desperate one that is low on cash," Jyrvess waggles her finger and then spins her hand around to indicate the entire room, "Lot's interested folks here though. Jobs and the weird librarians that take them might attract the wrong crowd."

[Ters Tii]

"Are you not a man of this planet?" they asked. Nearly thinking they should prod him awake. "Look at our people! Useful, independent, hard workers! Our mine feeds our industry which feeds our economy. Our farms bring food to not just Kamda but around the outer-rim as well!"

Ters took their parochial pride in stride. "I suppose the Imperials are not concerned about the loss of efficiency the constraints on our miners will impose, and the ripple effects that will have across the economy. We have people who think in short-term cycles in the legal profession as well. They tend to perpetuate the problems they seek to erase."

[Chos Pokosta]

"I do believe the Imperials have factored all of this in when making their decision. Perhaps, they do so because of a danger to the population and this weighed that risk against all others," Chos looked to his compatriots and then Ters.

"I feel for those who are still trapped out be Beinirk. Weeks away from their family must be harsh," he looked to his Quarren friend, "though I envy that somewhat," he joked. "They are facing a time of hardship which few of us have experienced. Hopefully, that few of us will have to. Yet, I am certain that those brave workers will be able to return to their families soon."

[Ters Tii]

"Perhaps when this danger, whatever it is, is removed." Ters tilted his head in consideration. "No Mandalorians or sympathizers have appeared before my bench as of yet, though."

[Chos Pokosta]

"Perhaps the danger is not of that variety?" Chos suggested. "Regardless, my friend. I would worry for how fervently you question the word we have received thus far. Any other might suspect something behind this than idle curiosity."

[Ters Tii]

"What sort of professional would I be if I did not enlighten myself as to the needs of the authority? How else could I facilitate them?"

He dismissed the threat with a wave of his hand.

"You are far too eager, Chos Pokosta, to read danger where there is only service. We must remember that it is the prodigal son who is rewarded at the end of the story. Old men like you and I have have little need for reward, so the grindstone is the most effective method--provided it is set at the right speed to hone the edge."

[Chos Pokosta]

"I read it," he said, speaking as neutral as always. "Which means that those far more attuned than I might read it as well. I merely wish to remind you of the many friends I have, many whom are Imperial of some standing. One, I am certain, who would be very keen to ask questions of his own after hearing such prying."

"Regardless," he said with a wave of his own hand. "I should not need to warn you of such things. As I would not need to remind you that there are agencies within the Empire that would not need to bring an offender before your court. Ones that do not take lightly to the even mere suggestion that a planet may have a subversive element present."

[Ters Tii]

Ters privately acknowledged that Pokosta's threat was slightly more pointy than his had been. Perhaps Kamda's walking tumor wasn't worried about his son being turned in? No matter.

"Point taken, old friend," he said with a tired smile. "I shan't monopolize your friends any longer. Lead on, to brighter pastures."

[Chos Pokosta]

"Do be well," he returned, "I would hate for there to be any further disturbances at my event. Already I have been told many have been thrust out due to misbehavior," he commented before turning back to the group.

[Manny Donos]

"A desperate one that is low on cash," Jyrvess waggles her finger and then spins her hand around to indicate the entire room, "Lot's interested folks here though. Jobs and the weird librarians that take them might attract the wrong crowd."

"Yeah..." Manny glanced casually around. "Good point. That's a topic for another time."

Manny laughed at that. "I..." He began, but then broke up, laughing again.

"Phew. Okay." He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. "I guess maybe that's how you felt when I told you the thing about being from House Alder of Alderaan."

Sighing, he recovered himself. "Well. You wanna go sometime, maybe? I could explain all about how it works. I promise you'd have a good time."

Manny laughed at that. "I..." He began, but then broke up, laughing again.

"Phew. Okay." He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. "I guess maybe that's how you felt when I told you the thing about being from House Alder of Alderaan."

Sighing, he recovered himself. "Well. You wanna go sometime, maybe? I could explain all about how it works. I promise you'd have a good time."

"Was that clumsy?" Manny grinned. "I was going for boyish charm. I guess I really should have added this, huh?"

With a flourish, Manny produced as if from nowhere and offered to Jyrvess... another egg. "Kriff." He muttered. "I knew I shouldn't have changed my pockets around."

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"Was that clumsy?" Manny grinned. "I was going for boyish charm. I guess I really should have added this, huh?"

With a flourish, Manny produced as if from nowhere and offered to Jyrvess... another egg. "Kriff." He muttered. "I knew I shouldn't have changed my pockets around."

"Might I recommend you do the reverse and make food disappear into your pocket." Jyrvess gingerly takes the egg, and inspects it, "Looks like an egg, does it crack open to reveal streamers?"

She gently returns the egg to Manny's hand. "Or perhaps some small trinket of mine you lifted off of me earlier?"

[Manny Donos]

"Might I recommend you do the reverse and make food disappear into your pocket." Jyrvess gingerly takes the egg, and inspects it, "Looks like an egg, does it crack open to reveal streamers?"

She gently returns the egg to Manny's hand. "Or perhaps some small trinket of mine you lifted off of me earlier?"

"No, it's a real egg." Manny said as he took it back, replacing it somewhere in his fancy jacket. "I used to do one with an egg turning into a bird, and you needed a real egg for the audience to examine closely, but carrying around a bird is just too much trouble. I, uh, still carry the eggs though. I think it's just habit by now."

He assumed an innocent expression. "And you don't steal from your crew. It was supposed to be a flower." This time, the object he produced was, in fact, a flower. A little smooshed, a little dry. "It would have been pretty impressive if I had pulled that out the first time, huh?"

[Varina Ordo]

"Not a fan of that Tybalt fellow, huh? He's also a bit of a lout." Maybe she shouldn't have said that out loud...

"I'm not a fan of most of the people here," he leaned in and whispered. "Even Cho's," he wink and then leaned back.

"Don't worry though, as far as Chos is concerned even he would agree his adoptive son is a bit of a lout. Though.." he thought, but dismissed it.

"But you are quite familiar with them?" Varina smiled faintly. "Being so far from home, it's hard for me to know everybody here myself. Tybalt simply stood out."
