Let the teaching begin? (D2 MN closed)

Post by Leah kuso » Mon Jul 13, 2020 5:44 am

Leah had sent the message onwards to Mallory, trying not to get sucked too much into the club - she was pretty well known after all. Being back now, she waited for Mallory who would know where best to go to teach her some things.

Why am I doing this again? she thought to herself for about the fifth time that day.

Mallory came around the corner on a street, giving Leah a wave as she walked over. Thrusting her hands into her jacket pockets she walked passed her, "Coming?"

The mid-night air was cold in the city, speeders came by occasionally but the street was largely barren. Of course, the clubs and other night-life kept pumping but she had her meet in a less excited part of the Sapphire Alley, on the edge between the Alley and the Industrial sector. Here, the streets looked messy frequently and it was always a little run-down. Looked especially so at night.

Leah nodded, quickly turning to walk alongside the woman. She was glad for the slightly later meet as it allowed her to put something warmer on for the night, which meant her lovely long brown coat could get some use.

"Thanks for this. Really, it's cool for you to help me like this."

"Yea," she said, distracted by a thought. "Through here," she lead Leah down an alleyway, sure to double check on her every few steps. Once they were about halfway down she lit a little lamp that hung above a doorway that was built into the floor a bit. Walking down the steps she opened the door and walked a few more steps down into a cool room.

"Make yourself comfortable," she said. Walking through the cellar of a room, it was long and wide. At the front there was a little space for people to hang out and near enough the rest of the space was used for a gun-range or whatever else it seemed the woman needed. After lighting all the lanterns that gave the place it's light she went over to a small mini-fridge, popping out a long-neck ale of some type and popping the cap off on the door.

Home would have a lovely stove to turn on and heat the room.

Leah looked around the room, surprised that a gun range was so close yet she hadn't even heard of it.

"Has this always been here? Walls must be soundproof or something. Oh wait, this is your place? No wonder you're a good shot, you can just go home and practice!"

She found somewhere to sit, continuing to peek around.

"Yea, for now," she said, walking about the place with the open bottle in her hand. "Not many ranges nearby, and I don't get much sleep," she shrugged.

"Need anything?" she asked, looking around the room for something but she didn't seem sure what.

"Oh uh, just some water please"Leah watched the woman pacing around looking for something, and she added "is it over there? What you're looking for" pointing to the second shelf up on the wall near her. Not sure why that exact point called to her as she couldn't even see what it was on that shelf.

There was a small box there, and when Mallory noticed it she shook her head, "No. You.. warm enough?" she asked, walking back across the way toward the fridge where she started to dig for a water bottle.

"I keep it cold for when I train. What were you hoping to learn, anyway?"

"I prefer hot to cold but I'm ok" Leah said, stopping herself from rubbing her arms more "cold helps with training then? Like a focus thing?"

She thought for a moment before she added "I kind of want to learn how to use a blaster. Like, that thing today...I'd never held or used a blaster before. I get that you and the others are good and can look out for the dancers, but you never know when someone is gonna just turn up at your home or something. I think it would be smart to have some knowledge."

Mallory paused at the first, digging deeper in the fridge for a container of water she kept. Closing the door carefully she handed it over to Leah, "Blaster it is," she said, neutral.

Leah tilted her head, curious what the woman had expected. She tried to imagine Mallory being there for girl talks, complaining about boyfriends or girlfriends, and the thought almost made her laugh out loud.

She accepted the water with a smile. "Thanks! So yeah blasters. You used a lot of different ones? What was the one Vex put in my hand?"

"Something sleek I saw, custom probably," she said, half in thought about it as she took a drink from her bottle. Walking over toward a cupboard looking thing which was converted into a small personal armory. Looking through her assortment she pulled out two blasters but left one sitting on a small nightstand that was beside it. Bringing over a rather standard blaster she put it down next to Leah on a table.

"Standard one for practice," she said, walking toward the range. "Keep your hand off the trigger."

So many weapons...

Leah looked at the weapon placed beside her. A standard weapon apparently. She turned it a few times on the table to look at it, and measured it against her small hands.

"Don't worry, I'm not gonna pick it up until you give me permission" Leah said reassuringly "no point taking risks where they're not needed. So this is the standard one? You make it sound like there's hundreds of different blasters."

"Different types, different tasks," she said, setting up a target that would hang from a ceiling fixture.

"Huh. I guess that makes sense" Leah commented thoughtfully "like, a big blaster isn't gonna be any use in a small space I suppose. Or a tiny blaster isn't gonna hit someone far away?"

"Something like that," she said. Pulling off her suit-jacket she neatly folded it up and carried it over. Coming back over to Leah she watched the girl for a moment. Shaking her head when she got close, "Ready?" she tossed her suit-jacket onto a nearby chair.

Leah nodded, picking up the gun.

"Ready sir." She took a few moments to examine the blaster, working out how it would fire and what the best way to hold it was, before pointing it at the hanging sign.

"Just pull?"

The safety was still on

Mallory brought her hand up to the top of the blaster, pushed it down so that the barrel was facing the ground. Walking around in front of Leah she turned the blaster away so that it was never facing anyone. Now with the blaster between them she directed, pointing out the fire control, "Safe, Stun, Kill," she indicated each one as she switched through the modes.

"When you hold it, hold it firm in your hand. It's going to have a little kick, nothing like a slugthrower but be prepared for it."

Leah felt a little embarrassed having to be told the different modes, but listened intently. Seems she had it set in safe mode, which was even worse. She didn't even want to ask what a slugthrower was, but just nodded and gripped the weapon tighter.

"Ok" she nodded again "set it to stun now, right?"

"Are we practicing to stun them or stop them?" she asked, her tone neutral. Though a slight emphasis was given to the word "stop."
