Defensive offense [D3, MM]

[Roxi]

"Why? Do you want to be a pirate?" She looked at him with a skeptical eye. He seemed rather... wobbly... was that the term? Gangly? She wasn't sure. "What sort of references do you have? What kind of skills?"

[Manny Donos]

Manny laughed. "Maybe this will answer your question." He bowed, straightened, then held out his hands, producing as if from nowhere... a toothbrush.

He frowned at it. "Okay, that was supposed to be a flower, but I mean it's still impressive, right? Also, I'm good at sneaking in and out of places."

[Roxi]

Again with the random objects being held out. What was it with this guy?

"Err..." she looked at the toothbrush, and then him as he tried explaining. "I *guess* a pirate crew could make use of... the sneaking part at least. It's just... I'm kind of in between ships right now."

And I'm not a captain or anything

[Manny Donos]

"Between ships, huh?" Manny nodded sympathetically. "Just like I'm between homes right now." He tucked the toothbrush away carefully. He'd need it later, after all; a magician needed a good smile.

"But once a pirate always a pirate, right? And hey, I'll land on my feet. I always do." Manny said cheerfully. "If you're between crews, maybe you just need to make one. Be your own boss! Or..." He frowned thoughtfully. "I know someone who might be interested in someone like you."

[Roxi]

She raised a brow, a gesture she wasn't very good at. "Oh? Another one? Who would this one be, then?"

[Manny Donos]

"Lady by the name of Vex. She's kinda a big shot around here." Manny shrugged modestly. "And I do stuff for her from time to time."

He looked at her, one eyebrow going up. "I could introduce you... as a favor."

[Roxi]

"Right?" A favor. She'd heard that before. "I mean, I wouldn't say no to opportunities to make credits."

Wait, she'd heard that name before, hadn't she? Vex. Vex... oh!

"Hey... that's the lady who owns the club we started a fight in!" She said with far too much enthusiasm.

[Manny Donos]

"Yeah!" Manny said. There was a short pause.

"Wait, what?" He looked at her, frowning. "What fight?"

[Roxi]

"Oh, just me, this other knife-wielding kid," she said, having not shown off her own much bigger knife yet, "and some guy in armor, doing a job, getting out some rich dude's kid from drinking too much at this club for rich people. There was a lot of screaming, but that's just because rich people aren't used to anything."

[Manny Donos]

Manny frowned. "Was this Vex's business? Or... was she involved in a good way, or a bad way, or just a whatever sort of way?"

He chuckled. "Seriously, though. Vex is cool, but ten credits for a drink? Even if it's blue? I mean, milk is blue. It's not a value-add!"

[Roxi]

She shrugged, "Oh, no, it just went down in her club. She seemed cool about it, though. Lot of rich sleemo's in there though. Drinks are really 10 credits there? That's crazy. I didn't know that. All I came there for was the punch. That was free."

[Manny Donos]

Manny laughed. "For the punch. Nice one." He held up one hand for a fist-bump.

"Well..." He shrugged. "If Vex isn't mad for you starting stuff in her bar, she's pretty cool to work for. She's made it big, after all. Pretty big, anyway. Medium-large. Got her own club..." Manny trailed off, shrugging.

[Roxi]

She looked at the gesture for a fist-bump rather quizzically. Somehow, she'd never been on the receiving end of that gesture and wasn't immediately sure what to do. With a little bit of prompting though, she managed to awkwardly fist-bump back.

"Yeah? Well, like I said I wouldn't mind the work. So if you know her, and she needs someone to punch something... or something..."
